Professor Diana Alcantara-Payawal is a distinguished gastroenterologist, hepatologist, clinician-scientist, educator, and health-policy advocate with more than three decades of academic and clinical leadership. She serves as Professor and Chair of Internal Medicine at Fatima University Medical Center and Chair of the Committee on Hepatology at Cardinal Santos Medical Center. She made history as the first Filipino and first woman President of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver, founded Women in Hepatology–APASL, and remains a member of the APASL Steering Committee. She chairs the World Congress of Internal Medicine–Manila 2028 and previously served on the Board of the Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation. Her postgraduate training spans Harvard Medical School, the University of Tokyo, Mahidol University, and the University of Santo Tomas. As Founding President and Incorporator of the Hepatology Society of the Philippines, she has contributed to major guidelines on nutrition, hepatocellular carcinoma, MAFLD/MASLD, and viral hepatitis. Her distinctions include the 2026 Philippine Society of Gastroenterology Presidential Award and inaugural Distinguished Clinician Award, Hepatology Society of the Philippines Distinguished Life Member Award, 2026 Most Distinguished Member Award, together with the Clinical Educator Award of Fatima University Medical Center and the Teacher-Healer Award of Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
