Jasmohan S. Bajaj, MD, MS, is Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Virginia Commonwealth University, Stravitz-Sanyal Liver Institute, and Richmond VA Medical Center. He is a Fellow of ACG, AASLD, AGA, and FRCP (London). Dr Bajaj is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Bajaj did MBBS from Delhi University and fellowship in GI/Hepatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, from where he also received MS Epidemiology. He has served as PI for numerous studies in hepatic encephalopathy, chronic liver disease, and microbiome. His research has been funded through the NIH, Veterans Affairs, AHRQ, and ACG and he has published in Gastroenterology, Nature, Hepatology, Lancet GH and Hepatology, AJG, and Journal of Hepatology, among others. Dr. Bajaj frequently presents his work on hepatic encephalopathy, microbiota, and chronic liver disease nationally and internationally. Recently he was invited to give the prestigious AASLD Schiff lecture, which was focused on hepatic encephalopathy. He was a member of the AASLD HE, ACLF Guidelines Committee, and headed the ACG ACLF and HE Guidelines. He is the Chair of the North American Consortium for Study of End-stage Liver Disease, Co-PI of the CLEARED Consortium, and was the President of the International Society for Hepatic Encephalopathy from 2017-2019. He has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and Association for American Physicians.
